The professor of the Yerevan State Conservatory David Zalyan headed the jury on the Yerevan selection round of a republican festival of the Russian song among the pupils of comprehensive schools of Armenia, which caused the huge interest in the republic. He told why welcomes the return of the Russian language in the republic on those positions which it once took:

- You know, there was time when some cold snap was observed. It was in the 90th years. The former country leaders believed, probably, that the Russian is not obligatory to know. I have to tell you that this circumstance very much disturbed the cultural development of our children; and today consequences of such decision are still felt. I am far from policy, very far. But I can say what I see in the life of my country. In the Soviet period our people knew the Russian language and knew the Russian culture. The cultural baggage was very big – today it is necessary to restore it.

Unfortunately, we perceive not always the best. I will tell you according to my profile: so-called stars in Russia aren't able to sing through one man, but it doesn't confuse them at all. And it comes to us – to take the same singing under a soundtrack … And after all it is necessary to adopt the best! I always knew, whom listen in Russia when listened the children in music school. For example, 100-120 people sing and surely 80% from them sing Alla Pugacheva's songs …

It is good that our heads understood how it is important to know the Russian. In general, the more languages the people know, the more they developed in the cultural sense. I see how the Armenian children like to sing the Russian songs. In this sense I’m against that children sing the translations of the songs as it will be already other song. And the sense will another! But translation isn't necessary – the children perfectly sing the Russian songs and understand everything.

I think that the process of return of the Russian language on that place which it always took in Armenia will proceed and we are, the cultural figures, will promote it in every possible way.
