Peter Pasat, “Transdniestria has its own way. And it is not Moldova and Romania to fix it!”

Having heading the majority fraction “Obnovlenie” in Trans-Dniestr parliament, the deputy Peter Pasat is the vice-president of committee of the development of small and average business and industry and also the vice-president of the commission of foreign policy and international contacts. The primary tasks of this commission are the discussion, consideration, preparation and development of projects of the decisions connected with realization of functions of the Supreme body of Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic, concerning the foreign policy activity and the international cooperation.

Today he answers the questions of our portal on a situation in Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic on the eve of presidential election and how the Romanian and Moldavian politicians try to influence a state of affairs in region.

- The Trans-Dniestr republic exists already more than 20 years. Many politicians in the next states simply sleep and see that it will disappear from a map. And what is the vew of the future by the citizens of republic?

- About 500 thousand persons live in Trans-Dniestr region. The Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic is the multinational republic: thirty percent – the Ukrainians, thirty percent - the Russians, thirty percent – the Moldavians, ten percent – the Bulgarians, Turks, Gagauzes, Jews …

These people connect their future only with the development of republic as the independent state. And they don't pay attention that politicians speak in Moldova and Romania. Thus they hope very much for comprehensive support from the Russian Federation. Our state has taken place, we have already celebrated its twenty years' anniversary, however that may be! The generation which associates itself exclusively with the Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic has grown and it considers as the native land? Some of them had also their own children. They don't want the other destiny as the independent development of the Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic. Without someone's instructions and “advices”.

- What are the relations of the Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic and Republic of Moldova now? Whether something has changed after the communists were replaced in power by alliance parties for the European integration in Moldova?

- Transdniestria has no official relations with the Republic of Moldova. The power changes, in any way they can't be defined – they have no time to speak with us … But as a whole it is possible to characterize the spent policy by the Republic of Moldova as reactionary one that is quite explainable after the happened changes in Moldova. Moldova has no contacts with Trans-Dniestr, because it isn't necessary to them! They would like to return to the past, they don't know what to think up, that their dream will come true.

However, their dreams are only the utopia. It is necessary to look soberly at a reality and to understand that Trans-Dniestr will never be in structure of Moldova. Two decades we live in the different measurements and we have the different vectors of development. Even the education systems, for example, cardinally differ – about what to speak here?!

- What should be the principles of mutual relations of Trans-Dniestr and Moldova?

- We have prepared the good-neighbor Contract, but Moldova didn’t want to have a look at this document. They have another logic – it leans on the law accepted by the Moldavian parliament in 2005 in which the status of Trans-Dniestr is defined as a certain autonomy the opinion of which anybody and in any case is going to be interested in. Even when they accepted this law, nobody has time to take an interest at least in the opinion of the deputies of Supreme body of Trans-Dniestr Moldavian Republic …

- Whether the attempts of an aggravation of a situation in republic and even provocations before the presidential election in Trans-Dniestr are possible which will take place very soon?

- I think that it is not necessary to do it – it is not necessary to meddle in our business. We don't meddle in their business! The presidential election will take place very soon. By the estimations of observers 4-5 candidates will apply for a victory at once that is the voters have the choice. The present president of republic Igor Smirnov also has the right to take part. However, the election campaign starts very soon – then it will be possible to talk about chances. Of course, neither Moldova, nor Romania can affect the national will!

Or one more example: the politicians of Moldova declare from the different high tribunes that the human rights are broken in Trans-Dniestr. Of course, it is the lie! We repeatedly invited the various international organizations to the republic for monitoring, in particular, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. OSCE constantly works at us, but, unfortunately, the practice of double standards doesn't allow all these structures to draw the objective conclusions …

- How Romania influences a situation in region? In your opinion is the joining of Romania and Moldova possible in the future?

- It is all obvious here. The policy of Bucharest is directed on “lands collecting” of “Great Romania” - RomaniaMare. They speak about it and propagandize this idea. And not only in Bucharest but also many politicians in Kishinev. And it is not by any chance that about 5 thousand students from Moldova study in the Bucharest institutes of higher education … By the way, the students from Transdnestria study in Russia (more than 100 state-financed places are given to them) and Ukraine (about hundred state-financed places).

However, at all noise round this idea, it is necessary to remember one simple thing: conversations are conversations but nobody wants to share the power! The Kishinev politicians don't thirst to refuse it voluntary, but constantly use the conversations of joining in their political games. We notice it very well.

- How do you assess a role of Russia in the region? What are the relations with Transdniestria today?

- Certainly, the role of Russia is very great! We won’t forget that Russia protects also its geopolitical interests in Transdniestria: Transdniestria is its advanced post in region. Of course, Russia helps us: that is the given privileges in the course of supply of the republic enterprises and citizens habitation with gas and social support. For example, the additional payment to pensioners is made, the food in preschool institutions and hospitals is paid. And the citizens of Transdniestria are very grateful to Russia for this help.

- Not so long ago the president of Romania Traian Basescu has acted with pro-fascist statements. In your opinion, for what purpose does he do it?

It follows from an essence of a policy spent by official Bucharest. Didn’t Basescu know what has made Antonescu in the days of war, whom the history made the sentence? Didn't he read the documents which Antonescu signed? Or, maybe, he was not well informed, what terror was created on this coast of Dnestr in the days of occupation? Mister Basescu can pretend that he doesn't know it, but we know about it all and we remember. And our historians write the truth about this period.

- What can the politicians oppose to neo-fascism today which can be observed in different displays in the East Europe countries?

- I worked as the teacher and I want to tell that the main thing is to tell the truth to rising generation! History and policy are indissoluble therefore it is necessary to know the history. Then they won't confuse your head precisely and no neo-fascism will find then the nutritious soil. And those who promote such ideas should simply remember what the Second World War has ended.
