Discrimination of the Russian language in Ukraine is the nationalist idiocy of political swindlers

The People's Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, KPU fraction Alla Aleksandrovna Aleksandrovskaya answers the questions of the Internet portal “The world and we”.

- What is the assessment of KPU of the law of the regional languages accepted in the Verkhovna Rada and a situation with a language problem in Ukraine as a whole?

The position of communists is accurate and concrete. We consider that the Russian language should become the state one. We proceed from this that the roots of our cultures are the general. I consider that the Ukrainian and Russian culture is united culture, culture of the Slavic people. People, who speak Russian, understand the Ukrainian and on the contrary – it is an indisputable truth. But there are such people who go obstinate and pretend that they don't understand any language.

I am ethnic Ukrainian and was born in Sloboda Ukraine, my parents are the Ukrainians. But the feature of our region is that we have two native languages. I perfectly understand the Ukrainian, it is native for me. But the Russian is also native for me. I can't divide myself into two parts and tell what language is not native for me. When the sociological polls or population census are carried out and ask that I specified only one language, I’m always in difficult situation because I can’t choose only one language.

We act on the premise that, firstly, there are a lot of such people in Ukraine, and, secondly, that the Russian is the language of the international communication. Therefore we consider that the Russian language should become the state one. Thus, I am sure that it doesn't lead to stagnation or restriction of use of the Ukrainian. I can remind that during the Soviet period of our history, the great variety of newspapers and magazines were published and the films were made in the Ukrainian language in Ukraine. Today we can't come nearer to those scales at all and never reach them in general at present policy of the state. But the main problem is not in that. The Ukrainian language demands the development and support in the same way, as well as the Russian because the culture of the population catastrophically falls. And the development of languages suffers from it – both the Russian, and the Ukrainian.

Concerning the law of languages, so we consider that any movement to a solution of the problem of the Russian-speaking population is a positive step. Certainly, it would be better to make more radical decision on granting of the state status to the Russian language. Therefore this law can be considered as the intermediate stage to such decision. Any offer on support of free use by the people of that language which they consider as native, should be supported and adopted. We will defend these principles in all ways available to us.

- What are the main objectives in opposition to the Russian language, pursued by “orange” opposition? It is the attempt to receive any dividends from the West Ukrainian electorate before the elections, the real ideological motives? Or it is the working off of the western order on lobbying of the Ukrainian and destruction of the Russian language for carrying out of policy of Ukraine’s separation from Russia, which is favourable to the western community?

All components, which you told about, of course, are present in the actions of “orange” opposition and nationalists. But what they do, I call as the nationalist idiocy. It is possible to be the nationalist, to worry about the nation, the culture in order it would be really known, developed. But when there is a statement of the nation and culture at the expense of destruction and humiliation another, it is an idiocy. And the most awful that this idiocy leads to serious split of society because the normal person will never agree that somebody would close a mouth to him.

When I act in the Verkhovna Rada and speak the Russian, the nationalists start to shout, that I would speak in the Ukrainian. Certainly, such attempts cause a protest and it occurs to a huge number of people in the country. Because it is my inner world, idea of an outside and inner world, these are my outlooks on life which I want to transfer to the children and grandsons. And when somebody tries to alter me, force to speak the other language, make absolutely other person from me, of course, nobody will agree with it. Therefore I call such aggressive actions as idiocy which is fed up and spread in Ukraine including for those purposes which you mentioned.

This year the parliamentary elections and those who made the conflict round the language law, both parties, proved to the electorate that defend its interests. But regardless of political conflicts that occurs now in Ukraine, it is, actually, the stagnation of the Russian-speaking population, destruction at representation of the youth that we are the united Slavic people with Russia.

Definitely, there is a political reason, it is the tactical action with the purpose to show to the voters – look, I’m on sacrifice and protect your interests. The most pernicious is that many won’t look into whose interests or they are imposed by politicians manipulators. The real interest is that the culture developed and it developed not to the prejudice of culture of other person. But these politicians will never speak so – it is not profitable for them and constantly mouldering conflict is favourable on which it is possible to earn the pre-election dividends.

The considerable part of the population of Ukraine is the people who realize that their roots are the Russian culture and that we have a united history. Also the policy was carried out for many years that these people felt here as strangers, that they would have a thought to leave from here. But we won't leave anywhere – it is our homeland and we won't give it to somebody.

- What are your forecasts about the situation development on elections, what will be with the Party of Regions and what are the prospects of KPU?

On Sloboda Ukraine's example I can tell that the communists work not only in a year of elections, but keep the active involvement all the time, constantly respond to the needs of people. And the people start to understand the correctness of our position and correctness of that we offer for Ukraine as the way of development. Our support grows, while others, bourgeois parties completely discredited themselves. How many they speak about the social support of the most unprotected segments of the population, about aspiration to help people, in practice they accept more and more laws which deprive of people of privileges and social prospects.

It is obvious to everybody that the defective foreign and domestic policy is carried out in Ukraine which won't allow to meet the economic and financial crisis in the country, being an echo of the world crisis. We, the communists, consider that for the solution of this and many other problems the most important step is the association of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, the creation of united customs space and the united economic union, the stable, capacious market for our goods.

I’m surprised that the current and all previous governments resist to it in every possible way. It is clear to the whole world that it is necessary to achieve the goods advance to the most capacious, stable markets. Then it is possible to look forward with confidence, to make, sell and get profit, to develop all spheres of the state at the expense of it. But the Ukrainian authorities actually put a barrier for our goods, for the development of our economic relations. I consider that it is already clear to all people– without the elimination of these barriers we won't have new workplaces, the salary won't grow. For this reason there is a sharp denial of that policy which is led now by the Party of Regions.

- What is the chance of All-Ukrainian Union “Freedom” on upcoming elections to pass in parliament?

Taking into account that there is no objective assessment of existing political forces at the state level, the people have an impression that this party can put things in order somehow. Activists of All-Ukrainian Union “Freedom” show it, put forward, actually, left slogans about protection of people, behave actively and aggressively. But it is necessary to show what they represent themselves. In the western regions there are local authorities which are completely occupied by the representatives of this political force and there is a complete degradation of the social, economic sphere against the aggressive nationalist promotion. On that inertness which is shown by the Party of Regions concerning this party, there is an impression that All-Ukrainian Union “Freedom” isn't their political opponent, but a certain satellite which coaxes a certain electorate. Further they will have the cooperation, possibly.

It is not a secret that the block of Yulia Tymoshenko and “Our Ukraine” are considerably adjusted forces, but under many bills they vote together with the Party of Regions in all that concerns the interests of oligarchs. Therefore it is necessary to look at all this political picture from the class positions – what social groups are interested in advance of All-Ukrainian Union “Freedom”, Party of Regions, block of Yulia Tymoshenko. It appears that it is a social group of large oligarchs which direct the activity of these parties in own interests.
