Latvia dies out. The reason is the infringement of the rights of the Russians. Chapter II: sacred cows of the state ideology

In general, the position is terrifying. And here there is a sacramental question “who is guilty?” Here it is necessary to focus attention that all above described disasters occurred at the time of absolute power of ethnocratic regime. If to argue in terms of known scientist Lev Nikolaevich Gumilev, now there is typical "chimera" in Latvia that is the system at which the advantage of one ethnos is openly proclaimed before another, in effect. However, as the history shows, similar "chimeras" aren't capable to reproduction, generate internal conflicts, quickly break up or fall a victim of the next ethnoses. As a rule, the chimerical formations grow out of systematic activity of the aggressive ethnic elite, aspiring force to take hold of key social positions in polyethnic societies and consequently in any ways trying to mobilize the masses of fellow tribesmen for the support.

The modern Latvian ruling regime has constructed also the mythology necessary for fastening of the legitimacy in the opinion of the people. Actually, in the fact there is nothing bad in the presence of the state formative mythology, on the contrary, it is absolutely necessary for any, some steady state system. The question is only for what purposes it is designed – bad or kind? We will study the basic myths of modern Latvian state ideology.

The corner myth which is the ground of all state construction is almost fifty years of the Soviet occupation. The official point of view which the historians sitting on state grants should echo, is simple. It is necessary to prove, how well the Latvians lived till 1940 year and then, in 1940, “angry Russians” have come and there was “a terrible year” (Baigais gads). Then there were “rather good Germans” who drove away “angry Russians”. After that, in 1944, “angry Russians” have again welcomed and there has come “an awful epoch of the Soviet occupation”. The scheme is simple but it is considered only true. Though there are people in Latvia, calling it in question, offering various arguments (and it will do, while definitively won't enter system of criminal punishments for “occupation negation”). Instead of a word "occupation" they offer other terms – “the compelled incorporation on the threshold of the most severe war", "political coup in the result of which the Latvian communists have come to the power in Latvia in the fortieth. Some refer to estimations of the international law experts specifying that joining of the Baltic States to the USSR corresponded to the norms of international law of 1940 year and that the given fact has obtained the international recognition. Thus, remind of a recognition de facto integrity of borders of the USSR for June, 1941 at Yalta and Potsdam conferences by the states-participants and also about the recognition of indestructibility of the European borders participants of Meeting on safety and cooperation in Europe in 1975 year. They result Winston Churchill's statement made in 1940t: “That the Russian armies should rise on this line, was absolutely necessary for safety of Russia against Nazi threat. Anyway, this line exists and East front is created which Nazi Germany won't dare to attack. When mister Ribbentrop has been caused to Moscow last week, he had to know and accept that fact that the realization of Nazi plans in relation to the Baltic countries and Ukraine should be definitively stopped … “.

Further, the power inspires a postulate about the Latvians, as the only heirs of Latvia. However, it is exposed to criticism from the independent historians reminding that the Russians and their direct ancestors live in territory of Latvia longer, than official ideologists confirm. Here remember an Old Slavic tribe of Wends, which left the trace in customs, toponymy and even in the state symbolism on the earth of Latvia. They discuss about the ancient Latvian national heroes, prince Visvaldis (Vsevolod) and prince Vetsek (Vyacheslav) occurring from a sort of Polotsk orthodox princes, that, to all signs, the most part of territory of present Latvia entered into administrative borders of Ancient Russia. Well and, certainly, it is not necessary to remind that the Baltic States has been twice won by the Russians: at the Swedes (1701-1714) and at Hitlerites (1941-1945). According to modern data, only during the Great Patriotic War for this land were lost not less than 300 000 Russians. The given land was not only won but also redeemed: in 1721 Peter the Great has paid to the Swedes 2 million thalers for Livonia, Estland and the Izhora earth. And, the Nystad peace treaty, according to which these lands were a part of the Russian empire, is still included into the world corps of the legal acts, defining the world status quo. And in 1795, Catherine II has redeemed also Kurland for 1 million 400 thousand thalers from her duke.
The Russians have brought the huge contribution to development of local economy, industry and culture. Thanks to the Russians and natives of Russia, the bases of the modern Latvian painting, science, music, literature, cinema, military and legal art, journalism, publishing house have appeared in many respects … Moreover! In due time in Petersburg the requirement to use the Latvian language in Riga state institutions has been published – the German language dominated before. In the same place, in Petersburg one of the first newspapers in the Latvian language “Peterburgas Avīzes” was published, rather criticizing the power of German barons. Similar examples can be multiplied and multiplied.

The following state formative myth is that the Latvian language should be the only state language in Latvia. Though, it is necessary to notice that modern Latvian is young language enough. As the contemporary of that epoch Franz Nyenstaedt wrote, that in the beginning of XVII century, “the language of the Livones, then Estonian, Allentak, Russian, Curonian, Lithuanian and Virscan” was the main language in territory of Livonia. Other sources of that time carry to the main languages as Libyan, Latgalian, Russian, Lithuanian, Curonian, Estonian languages.
The Latvian integral language has started to develop then, in XVII century, when a first dictionary of this language and the first Bible on the Latvian language were printed. Here there is a merit of the Baltic Germans in many respects who have invented the written language for the Latvians on the basis of German grammar for more effective dialogue and management. Finally the Latvian written language was created by the German G.F. Stender in the middle of XVIII century. The first textbook of the Latvian language in Russian language was published in Riga in 1868 year. The first reform of the Latvian language has been carried out at the time of Nikolay II, in 1908. In 1932-1946 there was a first explanatory dictionary of the Latvian language.

Another myth logically follows from the given myth – the Russian language is foreign in Latvia. But actually, the Old Russian language was applied here as language of international dialogue long before the Latvian language was issued. Modern Russian language also found and finds the broadest application. It is no wonder: for many centuries it has passed through some stages of the development, has sustained some reforms, has absorbed the achievements of many other languages and has reached high degree of perfection. Moreover, the Russian language repeatedly was the state or an official language in territory of modern Latvia - in the various state formations existing in this territory: in Polotsk princedom, in princedom of Talava, in Grand Lithuanian princedom, in Rech Pospolitoy, in the Russian empire, in the USSR.
