On July 22, the planned action by the unionists supporting the accession of Moldova to Romania terminated in a total failure in frontier with Romania, one of the largest cities of the republic Cahul! It was broken by the patriotic forces of the republic.

The unionists in the person of the representatives of national liberal party and also a number of the local non-governmental pro-Romanian organizations, intended to pass march around the city to a monument of one of the Moldavian gentleman and to hold the meeting of supporters of accession of Moldova to Romania there and also to burn the attributes of communistic symbolic …

The representatives of the League of the Russian youth of the Republic of Moldova, who was actively counteracting the action of unionists, told about what happened:

- The bus which has arrived from Romania with the Romanian unionist was catcalled by Cahul's inhabitants who have gathered for amicable protest action with the support of the Russian-Slavic community of Cahul, the League of the Russian youth of the Republic of Moldova, party “Patriots of Moldova”, the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, the representatives of Mishin’s group and other public organizations.

The dissatisfied inhabitants tried to interfere with carrying out this shameful march in every way, but the representatives of police didn't allow approach of citizens to the Romanian nationalists in order to avoid the conflicts. There were such incidents as blocking of streets by police, constraint of citizens in movement and manhandling. The majority of inhabitants had an impression that the police watches not peace carrying out of the action, but namely protects the unionists...

The arrived people from Romania reached the central square to Ion Voda's monument where the citizens of Cahul gathered also, holding the flags of Moldova, the League of the Russian youth, Patriots of Moldova party and Stefan Cel Mare's banners. The patriotic spirit of citizens didn't allow them to look quietly at violation of the sovereignty, memory and honor of their hometown and the country. The gone out of doors people chanted the slogans: “Down with fascism!”, “The fascism won't pass!”, “We are the Moldavians!” The most active inhabitants “treated” the unionists with the portion of fresh eggs …
As a result, the lost, catcalled unionists left the square with a shame and returned to Romania, and the hundreds gathered peace demonstrators rejoiced to that could defend the city from invasion of right radical unionists. People took them shouts “Go home behind Prut!”, “Your country is behind Prut!”, “Cahul is the Moldavian city”.

Local resident Galina, 56 years:

- I am struck by impudence which is shown by the coming in Cahul citizens of other state - Romania. They brought even the children who have not reached the full age and used them in political goals that especially emphasize their irresponsibility.

Gennady Anatolyevich, 61 years:

- Our fathers protected and defended the Moldavian land from the fascist aggressors with the arms in hands during the Great Patriotic War and today the fascism try to be revived again, but already on our land. We, simple citizens, will make everything that not to allow it!

Vasily Ivanovich Mikhaylov, the chairman of the Russian-Slavic community of Cahul:

- Today's attempt of carrying out of unionist march is the outstanding event in the city of Cahul. As soon as it became known that the Romanian nationalists intend to hold event under aegis “Long live Great Romania!”, the locals immediately reacted and gathered for amicable repulse and protection of the city under the flags of the Russian-Slavic community, the League of the Russian youth of the Republic of Moldova, party “Patriots of Moldova” and other organizations.

Boris Andreevich Shapovalov, the vice-chairman of the Congress of the Russian Communities of Moldova:

- Today Cahul's inhabitants accurately spoke against the policy of unionism which is led by the Moldavian authorities for the last three years. They clearly told that they are the citizens of Moldova and that they support the sovereignty and independence of the state. And the most important, they designated the aspiration of the people to the Eurasian space by their action.

Mikhail Vasilyevich Garbuz, the chairman of the party “Patriots of Moldova”:

- Today we, the citizens of Moldova, won and proved that the enemy menacing to the sovereignty of our country won't pass. Today, on July 22, 2012, Cahul became our Stalingrad!

Igor Viktorovich Tulyantsev, the chairman of the League of the Russian youth of the Republic of Moldova:

- The today's action is the proof of that there are enough people in Moldova, ready to protect the country sovereignty. The citizens, irrespective of nationality and political affiliation, united and didn't allow the unionists to disgrace the honor of the city.
