Recently the situation in a conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh became aggravated. The incidents were noted on lines of contact. Respectively, this situation found reflection in mass media of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Surge of their activity was in the period when it became known that the senior lieutenant of the Azerbaijani army Ramil Safarov is pardoned by the decree of the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the rank of the major is appropriated to him. Let's remind that in 2004, being trained on NATO courses in Budapest, Safarov killed the sleeping Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan with an axe. In Budapest he was sentenced by court to a life imprisonment without the right of pardon within the first 30 years. But in 8, 5 years he was extradited to Azerbaijan and immediately released …
The president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan recently expressed opinion about why Azerbaijan took such step:
- Azerbaijan gets extremely large number of arms, preparing for war renewal. Azerbaijan threatens us with new war 18 years later after Ceasefire Agreement signing.
When I say that there is a hatred to Armenians in Azerbaijan, xenophobia, when I speak about danger of purchases of arms by Azerbaijan, when I say that Azerbaijan prepares for renewal of hostilities and conflict settlement by a military way, it doesn't mean that there is no need to continue negotiations.
At least, I believe that Nagorno-Karabakh never will be the part of Azerbaijan and this is a great fortune in itself.
