Payders: the gang has grasped the power in Latvia

The chairman of the Union of journalists of Latvia, the known publicist and political scientist Yuris Payders is assured that the majority of the Latvians don't consider that the power is in their hands.

Nor one world war hasn't brought so much damage of the Latvian nation how those elements which lead Latvia for the last 20 years. Payders confirms in interview to a site of expert opinions IMHOclub.lv that the majority of the Latvians is very strongly disappointed by the political elite.

“The people have been convinced that this is the democracy”, the political scientist continues. “That this is our purpose. That this is the market. That the socialism was a horror, a nightmare. And here is capitalism. They have aspired to that. We have constructed the capitalism and democracy for you! Here is democracy and capitalism!”

“Here there is a gang of people who have seized the power and grow rich at our expense. They nationalize the banks, plunder this country. They expel us from here, establish the taxes to us which we can't pay, take away the earth. Therefore many don't want to be responsible for it”, Payders tells.

The political scientist specifies the necessity of progress in a society that it could self-purify otherwise the crisis phenomena will continue for a long time. Payders considers that two language referenda are one of such progress, recently initiated by national association Visu Latvijai!-TB/DNNL and a society "Native language".

The political scientist underlines that it is "positive, very positive". “The policy starts to use methods of direct democracy at last. They have hammered a dogma to us: once in four years you will vote and then shut the mouths and work further. Four years will pass and then you can vote again. That is incorrect radically, it not a democracy. And it is very positive that there is such direct democracy”. Besides, it “really will show a deal in a society — on what positions and how supporters has one current and how many supporters has the second”, marks Yuris Payders in interview to site IMHOclub.lv.
