Why Ivanishvili apologized because of Saakashvili's speeches?

The president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili who possesses the real power in the country don't love each other, to put it mildly. It is not a secret for anyone. But it breaks seldom to the public sphere. And still it happens, such as, in the first days of March …

The meeting of two first persons of the state took place in state office of Georgia more than an hour, and after it the parties stated very various judgments. So, Saakashvili explained that the work on amendments in the constitution will proceed, but it is necessary that the required result was reached on the basis of negotiations, instead of ultimatums. Literally it looks so: “We will continue the work on the Constitution. In my opinion there are no questions on which we couldn't agree and overcome an obstacle. I want that results were received on the basis of negotiations, instead of ultimatums. Naturally, today we couldn't agree about everything”.

About what the president told the prime minister? According to him here is what about: “The independent court is necessary in long-term prospect of Georgia. The termination of pressure upon mass media was the second requirement. There has to be a pluralism in the country in order to have an opposition and alternative opinion … The prosecution has to be stopped concerning several tens of citizens which happens only because they are the members of any party”.

In turn the prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili confirmed that he is ready to meet the president of Georgia, but only on specific questions: “I am always ready to meet Saakashvili, but don't want that it were the meetings for the sake of a meeting”. And then concretized: “We have obligatory to overcome crisis despite difficulties in society and not to assume that occurred in policy in the last nine years. That there was no crisis and that the situation didn't develop unconstitutionally and incorrectly, I assured Saakashvili that nobody will arrange opposition and won't move processes to the street”.

And further Ivanishvili told very curious phrase: “My request is that they ceased to speak only with America and Europe and that spoke clearly for citizens of Georgia”. It wasn't necessary to guess long – the statement of the prime minister that the president doesn't coordinate the visits with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia was soon published and his statements don't reflect a government position.

It won’t be good for Saakashvili after such public obstruction. The embarrassment happened very sensitive. Judge by yourself:

“Lately the president made some irresponsible statements which contradict the European and Euro-Atlantic course of the government of Georgia. The president of Georgia till October, 2013, before the expiration of presidential term, acts on the initiative, his visits aren't coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and his statement don't reflect a position of the government of Georgia... His statements create additional problems of the new power of the country … We regret for it and apologize before those countries which appeared in awkward situation because of statements of the president”.
