Aram Sargsyan: “Attack on Kesab is the revenge of the West to Armenia for support of Russia in the Crimea!”

Extremists committed a new crime in Syria: On March 21 their groups undertook approach to the city Kesab near border of Syria and Turkey where the vast majority of the population of the region is made by Armenians. Fighters arranged the real slaughter during which hundred people were lost. In total prior to tragic events about 190 thousand Armenians lived in Syria, but now their number any more doesn’t exceed 60 thousand people — many were compelled to leave the country.

The leader of Democratic Party of Armenia, the adviser to the president of Armenia for foreign policy questions in the past Aram Sargsyan commented the events in Kesab for our portal:

- That occurred in the Syrian city Kesab, naturally, revived tragic pages of history connected with genocide of Armenians in the memories of our people. After all attack on Kesab where the big community of Armenians lives, was made from the territory of Turkey. Also it was obvious that Turkey authorized this attack. Moreover, attack was consciously made on the Armenian regions of Syria!

Our reaction is unambiguous: we resolutely condemn this barbarous action and we urge the world community to condemn it resolutely. All of us aspire to that the situation in Syria was resolved by peaceful manner, but such actions as attack on Kesab city are directed on further escalation of the conflict. The peace isn’t necessary to their organizers!

Besides, we consider that the action in Kesab is the reaction to a referendum in the Crimea after which the Crimea was a part of Russia. It was such eructation of the West which can’t reconcile to this fact in any way. Here also decided to punish Syria where efforts of the president of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin succeeded to defuse the saved-up tensions. And we coordinate these events also that Armenia rigidly supported a position of Russia and voted as appropriate in the UN. I think that attack to the Armenian region of Syria is caused also by this fact too. Armenia, so will tell, as a real man declared the position and here such the answer followed.

- And after all, apparently, still relatively recently spoke about improvement of the Armenian-Turkish relations; even such term appeared — «football diplomacy» …

- You know, the Democratic Party of Armenia still when this «football diplomacy» only began, was against the similar decision. And the latest events in Syria just also prove that Turkey, without admitting still the fact of genocide of Armenians, will continue to follow the line on destruction of Armenians where they wouldn’t be. «Football diplomacy» was doomed initially and today it became a reality.

Other question is that the border could be at least open for railway communication to unload a situation in respect of blockade which exists more than 23 years. As for possibility of normalization of the relations of Armenia and Turkey it is still in the air … Because you won’t begin to trust the neighbour who always tells one and does opposite?!

— Tragic date 100 years of genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire comes nearer.

- In Armenia the state commission which in a complex deals with this issue is created. And, for example, the World Armenian Congress and its president Ara Abramyan suggest to call the Forum of heads of parliaments of those countries who admitted the fact of genocide of Armenians this year. Today 28 countries of the world recognized genocide of Armenians at the level of the parliaments.

Why do we suggest to call such Forum? Firstly, it will draw attention of world community to the tragedy of the Armenian people. Secondly, we aren’t going to become isolated only on the fact of genocide of Armenians. We will surely invite representatives of the people who also endured genocide in the history: Jews, Greeks, Assyrians, probably, representatives of Rwanda.

The international Forum has to address to the UN, after all the modern history shows that such evil as genocide can repeat! If the world community doesn’t condemn it and won’t take preventive measures, similar crimes against mankind, really, can take place today. It is impossible to allow it!

Tell, isn’t it the genocide of an event in Syria where mercenaries from all over the world simply coolly destroy civilians?! The world community is obliged to realize that fact that interaction and consolidation of normal healthy forces are necessary to prevent any possibility of genocide on a planet.
