Taking into account, so to speak, historical experience …

Also the interview to the Russian BBC service which the new Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Alasania gave speaks about it. By the way, his candidate is called among possible options of promotion of the single candidate from ruling coalition “Georgian Dream” on presidential election which will shortly take place in the republic.

Here is the opinion of Irakli Alasania about the relations of Georgia and Russia:

- For me the main task is not to allow to happen the escalation between Russia and Georgia in the future, that is the policy of a pragmatism for which Bidzina Ivanishvili's new government headed. It is very important for us because we should have the relations with the Russian Federation in spite of the fact that we passed through the war four years ago.

I think that trade and the cultural relations are with what we have to begin. We have no illusions that in very fast future Russia will change political views to a priority of Georgia to be the member of NATO or the European Union, or will change the relation to territorial integrity. But we have to begin with something. And I think that Bidzina Ivanishvili's pragmatic approach and our government will bring results.

We accurately told that we have no political reasons or plans to change reality by military intervention. We won't normalize our relations, causing the conflicts with the Ossetians, Abkhazians by military intervention. The only thing that we have to make is to find those ways by means of which we would closer cooperate with them in economic, infrastructure and other branches. I think, it is very correct approach which will give the chance to reach the bigger interrelation between Abkhazians, Ossetians and Georgians in the future. Also will give the chance to begin negotiations about the political status already then. But now it is early. We have to make everything that we, Abkhazians and Ossetians started talking not about political affairs, but about those the decision of which is necessary to our people.
