Mikhail Formuzal: “Now it would be quite good to hold a national referendum!”

Before a referendum in Gagauzia the head of the autonomy Mikhail Formuzal in various audiences told why this referendum which as a result gave absolutely definite answer to a question is necessary: what Gagauzia’s inhabitants see the future? Certainly, when the results of national will became known, the bashkan of Gagauzia couldn’t but give them the assessment.

So, the word is given to Mikhail Formuzal:

- Gagauzia’s position is today the adequate answer of the simple person to marches of unionist on a central square of the Moldavian capital who act with appeals about elimination of the Moldavian statehood. This is its natural reaction to behaviour of the president of the neighbouring country, declaring that his political project is this absorption of Moldova.

And how differently the simple Gagauz voter has to behave when the Bruxelles officials don’t see this unionist sabbath, don’t hear the unionist appeals to elimination of statehood of the Republic of Moldova? These officials are silent, instead of them any strange anonymous authors speak only. They say that you shouldn’t turn supposedly attention to the statement of the president of the next Romania, as he, say, is the inadequate person.

And where is the official reaction of the Moldavian authorities when they see all this «campaigns of unionist» to Beltsy when they plan such campaigns in Gagauzia, still somewhere? So what has to be Gagauzia’s reaction in a similar situation? Reaction of any other Moldavian region?

Reaction to this unionist sabbath can be only the one — strict observance of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova. In the Provision on Gagauzia’s special legal status it is accurately written that, in case of loss of the sovereignty by the Republic of Moldova, Gagauzia has the right for external self-determination. Is it written? Yes, it is written!

The leaders of the Gagauz people insisted on this point those years, though I was absent at that time. Exactly thanks to this point Gagauzia agreed to be as a part of the Republic of Moldova. So is it so or not? Yes, it is so! It was the wise decision. I consider that correctly then made. In those conditions, for that time it was very correct step.

All political parties which are registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova in the charter of which the elimination of the Moldavian statehood is written down as their program purpose, have to be outlawed.
Why the leadership of the Republic of Moldova still didn’t bring to trial somebody in appeals to elimination of the Moldavian independent and sovereign statehood? Why the European threefold standards don’t work in Moldova?

Imagine that today Germans leave and will demand elimination of statehood of Germany. Or French will demand elimination of statehood of France. Or Americans will demand elimination of the USA and section on 51 states. And what will do with these people there? It is quite clear what. What provides the law in these cases. So why in Moldova all this is possible? Why?

We do everything consistently and systemically. Remember my statements as bashkan of Gagauzia in which I demanded from the country leaders to imprison for 25 years those people who went on a central square of the capital of the Republic of Moldova and demanded the elimination of the Moldavian statehood.

Why the leadership of the Republic of Moldova didn’t react to this my statement? There was the second part in this statement. It was told there that the actions of unionist conduct to radicalization of Gagauz society. Was such statement of bashkan? It was!

Why none of the management of the Republic of Moldova listened to it?

Nobody has the thought that the idea of a referendum came to my mind firstly. People held meetings in the settlements and if any party started advertising, it is expelled at once! Any party has no relation to a referendum! It is our idea and results of a referendum we want to inform to the leadership of Moldova. The decision to carry out the referendum is a merit of all inhabitants of Gagauzia! Let citizens of Moldova will «thanks» to Gagauzia’s people that we kept the Moldavian statehood.

It would be quite good to hold a national referendum. But it is necessary to receive approval from the Central Election Commission. And we will welcome holding a national referendum. What is the referendum? It is a form of consultation with the population. I am sure that real processes of democratization will begin in Gagauzia!
