Mikhail Garbuz: “In four years Moldova probably wouldn’t exist as the states any more!”

Referendum results in Gagauzia became a cold shower for the ruling reformatted westernized alliance in Kishinev: the course on European integration is not perceived in independent Gagauzia as it became clear and, on the contrary, look at Russia with hope.

In Moldova the party at which it is written down in the program that it supports «comprehensive interaction and cooperation with the Russian Federation» actively works. It is «Patriots of Moldova» party which was founded on June 30, 2010 and has representations in 23 areas of the republic.

The chairman of the party Mikhail Garbuz commented on referendum results in Gagauzia at our request:

— Was a verdict of inhabitants of Gagauzia unexpected for you? Figures are so convincing as there is nothing to argue even if someone would have such desire …

- The referendum result in Gagauzia wasn’t unexpected for me, of course. Our party «Patriots of Moldova» well represents a situation in this region, knows the mood of people, so everything was obvious. Moreover, I will tell that not only in Gagauzia, but also across all Moldova people are ready to choose east vector, to choose the Customs Union.

— What political forces are most active in Gagauzia?

- You know, I wouldn’t began to allocate the region in this sense — here the watershed in policy passes in the same way as well as through all republic. And parties work the same. But here a position of them is another! I will give such example to you: it is known how Democratic Party of Moldova votes in parliament, but here its office in Gagauzia also supported the Customs Union, instead of the European Union.

Even if the person consists in any party, the Kishinev politicians are very naive if thinking that he will vote on their pointer.

- The party which you lead, Patriots of Moldova party, also works in Gagauzia?

- Certainly. And we work quite actively here. We very densely cooperate with Party of Regions which is headed by bashkan of Gagauzia Mikhail Formuzal. We have good business and partnership. We signed the contract on cooperation between our parties taking the state and patriotic positions.
Mikhail Formuzal is the former military; he passed good army school. Competent politician: many years he is the bashkan of Gagauzia already in difficult conditions! He also supports integration in east direction as understands the real needs of people.

I will repeat that political parties in Gagauzia, as though they weren’t called, support the Customs Union. Even the party of Vlad Filat, who looks, as you know, absolutely in other party in Kishinev.

-Will the referendum results in Gagauzia render any influence on a political situation in the republic as a whole?

- There is such influence already and it will be huge! At least because the idea of a referendum already went to walk across the republic as a boomerang. It discuss in the most different regions of Moldova.

And the power was frightened of this referendum very much! Really was frightened! After all a referendum is same example as it is necessary to pursue policy in the state. Never the power has to be afraid of own people! And what turns out? The power of the people is afraid because it for so-called European values, and the people absolutely for another, looks to the east!

The referendum which in essence is the most democratic way of national will and quite fits into the European practice suddenly became a serious irritant for so-called pro-European Kishinev elite. The question doesn’t consist that the «rebellious» region suddenly decided to interfere with the foreign policy of Moldova and is exclusive competence of the central authorities.

Question price is another: our politicians in horror of that the simple people, or at least its small part, somehow will express the categorical disagreement with an official rate on European integration. Especially, on the eve of elections! Especially now, when the political elite became staid, stopped civil strife, and represents next «concrete» based on «European unionism» when five percent of electorate can easily destroy it.

Instead of carrying on dialogue with own people, the authorities, without having any powers from society, was involved in very doubtful political swindle — «agreement on association with the European Union». It would be logical to support the initiative of Gagauz people, instead of to smother it if you think yourself as «European» and the adherent of «European values».

The result of a referendum became a slap in the face of the central power in Kishinev. It is the real slap in the face! Gagauz people gave all a good example as it is necessary to defend the interests. The people have the right to express the opinion on any question and nobody has the right to prevent it to make!

— The main event of this year in Moldova is parliamentary elections. Their price is so high that it is necessary to ask: do the patriotic forces intend to coordinate the actions somehow?

- We are simply obliged to agree! For one simple reason — the following elections in Moldova probably wouldn’t take place! Choice is such: either left patriotic forces or destructive and pro-European.

As the chairman of the party «Patriots of Moldova» I’m obliged to go for contact with all healthy forces of our society not to allow situation development in Moldova according to someone else’s scenario which is disastrous for our statehood.

Whether the patriotic forces of Moldova win in November or in four years Moldova would not exist as the states any more!
