Nikolay Starikov: “Protection of the Homeland is not the mere words!”

One of the most popular writers of Russia today is Nikolay Starikov. He writes about national history and today's world politics, opening the background of events to the readers, explaining the most difficult subjects. The writer-historian doesn't sit in place; he constantly invited on a visit not only to the Russian regions, but also to neighbouring countries. Today, when the attack of antinational forces is conducted already on the Victory Day, Nikolay Starikov formulated the answer to “slanderers of Russia”:

— Patriotic war therefore is called so that the war is conducted for Homeland rescue and the whole world is at war for it. The most terrible war in the history of our people therefore is called the Great Patriotic War that we were at war with the most terrible enemy for all our history who wanted to subdue not simply, but physically to exterminate the people of Russia. Fight was the most difficult. The Great. But we won. And the feat is the Great. And the Victory is the Great.

If we forget those who protected our country, it will simply cease to exist. I don't consider that these dates are superfluous in a calendar. I welcome the celebration of the dates connected with the Great Patriotic War in every possible way, shootings of movies about it, statement of performances, work with youth — all possible forms which hold in remembrance a feat of the Soviet soldier.

In the history the winners always dictate the conditions. Including the assessment of political events. The “new” history began after geopolitical defeat of the Soviet Union or Russia. Because the Soviet Union is no other than Russia, simply under other name, other flag and the bigger territory. It is nothing surprising! We still didn't endure the disintegration of Soviet Union, didn't restore former geopolitical power, we didn't give estimates. Therefore we “quote” the historical treatments brought to us from the outside. Those historians resist to whom it is more important not the grants, not desire to be pleasant to the West, but with a clear conscience to look opportunity in the face to the Russian students.

As soon as we forgot that the protection of the Homeland is not mere words, as soon as in the 90th cancelled May military parades on Red Square on May 9, so the civil wars began in the territory of Russia. To be proud of history of the ancestors is an integral part of our mentality. After all look that now occurs. The majority of textbooks of history which are used at our Russian schools are written on the western grants. Thus the Russians want to see the country prospering, great and we are necessary to the West only as a source of raw materials. Here also it turns out that our children in the majority don’t know the history, don't consider the defeat of the grandfather as something outstanding, worthy respect.
If we come to parliament, we will surely enter the criminal punishment for denial of a victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. By analogy of our foreign friends. As you know, in many European countries there are articles for Holocaust denial, in France the genocide of Armenians joins it. In this sense we can safely adapt the best world experience for our criminal legislation.
