Socialists of Kazakhstan: NATO base in Aktau in exchange for “democracy”?

The question of whether would the NATO military base appear in Aktau port (Kazakhstan) actively is discussed in Kazakhstan, but not at official level. The authorities prefer to keep mum in this respect, and here Socialist Movement of Kazakhstan decided to state the maintaining a situation in special «Blog of socialists, labour movement and social activists of Kazakhstan»:

- In the European and Russian press the publications began to appear that the authorities of Kazakhstan authorized the NATO military base creation in port of the city of Aktau. It becomes within the confidential military agreements signed by Astana with Washington and London. Our site wrote about it in a number of the previous publications for a long time and now it finds confirmation on pages of foreign editions.

The Kazakhstan resources start writing openly about it, supplementing our data with stories of witnesses. So, for example, the site kursiv. kz in Aktau told on the condition of anonymity that the American military actually already about half a year are present at the Kazakhstan port. «They go in the civil form, but you won’t cover a martial bearing. They say that it is the temporary base for export of freights and as it seems not military character. Also they say that the base won’t be on a constant basis. Everything is secret, even the name of the NATO transport organization is most secret», noted a source.

Creation of NATO base in Aktau, as well as in Ulyanovsk, intended officially for transportation of freights, the equipment and the military equipment, removed from Afghanistan. However many experts don’t trust these statements of the Kazakhstan authorities and the American military. «Temporariness» of stay of NATO divisions on the Caspian Sea actually only an excuse and cover on formation of constant point of finding of military forces of the western countries in the region.

The program on training the arms of divisions of the Kazakhstan army acts on the Caspian Sea by military specialists of army of the USA for safety of Aktau port and transportation and oil production ways exists long ago. It is fully completed by equipment and the crew of marines of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan which also took part in suppression of speeches of oil industry workers in Zhanaozen and in other settlements of Mangistaus area in December, 2011.

It is planned to create some more such crews and billet in Aktau and its vicinities and all of them will be under influence and the actual guide of the American and English military advisers. Not including the small town and the base for suppression of internal revolts and speeches of workers and local population in Zhanaozen, capable to accept and place full-fledged crew of armies.

NATO military base opening in Aktau completely changes the alignment of forces in the region and creates additional threats and tension in Caspian basin. It is clear that thus blockade and isolation of Iran amplifies over which the trade ways from the North armed forces of the western countries will hang. It is a certain call for the next Russia, its water and transport communications. As though in reply to these actions this year joint doctrines of the Caspian military flotillas of Iran and the Russian Federation took place.

We are far from geopolitical reasoning and conspiracy theories, but strengthening of military presence of imperialistic forces on the Caspian Sea and opening of NATO base creates the next explosive point on the map of the world and beats on interests and the rights of workers of Kazakhstan, the next Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran. We always opposed acceptance by the government of confidential military agreements behind the back of the people. Also it is a typical case when Nazarbayev and his nuker made the decision on NATO military base opening, without having asked the citizens of the country about it.

Benefits to Nazarbayev’s regime and next dictators are obvious. It first of all the military help from the western allies in suppression of possible revolution which is very probable in Central Asia. Besides, according to points of agreements, the Kazakhstan and Uzbek armies will get part of military property taken out from Afghanistan, arms and ammunition of NATO, in exchange for granting a transport corridor and strengthening of fight against terrorism and extremism in the region.

The full scope for strengthening of the dictatorship and carrying out any repressions against workers and opposition within the country under the pretext of fight against extremism also is provided to Nazarbayev. The preservation of safe extraction of profits on mining, especially after the last revolution in Kyrgyzstan is favourable to multinational corporations, the USA and EU preservation by any ways of stability in Central Asia. In this situation Nazarbayev’s regime becomes a stronghold and the counterrevolution centre in the region, a certain local umpire and a bludgeon of imperialistic forces.

On the example of NATO military base opening in Aktau all essence of the European and American big business and their political service staff, capable of any crimes and support of any bloody dictators and regimes, for the purpose of ensuring the financial and economic interests is shown once again. In this row the execution of workers and inhabitants in Zhanaozen actually approved by the West, the arrests of the Kazakhstan oppositionists in the countries of the European Union are only the links of secret arrangements and the auction which are paid by our oil and natural riches.

Socialist Movement of Kazakhstan in this situation won’t stand apart and considers necessary to begin extensive public discussion about a stay admissibility in Aktau of the NATO military base. We consider necessary together with other movements and groups after a series of discussions to organize anti-war campaign and actions against Akorda’s secret arrangements.
