The ambassador of Finland Matti Anttonen: “Russia will cope in the WTO!”
The ambassador of Finland in the Russian Federation Matti Anttonen made the message on theme “Local policy and democracy” at the meeting with young Russian politicians and public figures. The issue was about the development of local government, but, having answering the questions, the ambassador expressed the opinion concerning the membership of Russia in the WTO:
- Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization is very positive step for Russia, Finland and Europe as a whole. The ordinary Russian citizens, who buy the goods in shops, will win quicker from it. Your services sector becomes more competitive. It will be easier for Russia to carry out the commercial interests in the world.
The attractiveness of Russia to foreign investments will increase – I think that it will certainly be so. Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization will add some percentage points to the gross domestic product of the country, let’s say, within this decade.
I often asked: can Russia cope in the WTO? My answer is as follows: if Pakistan, Bangladesh and the African countries cope there, why such big and well educated country won't cope?! I think that Russia will work there successfully.
