The secrets of June 22: how Britain and Germany agreed to attack the USSR … Chapter III
As a rule, the leading world politicians and their encirclement are convinced to the point of forgetting everything else that an explanation of these or those events, in which they participated, as well as what comes from them is the ultimate truth. That was always. Only now the historians start to reveal that a victory of a certain Pharaoh which occurred five thousand years ago appeared to be a crushing defeat and not the victory. The Roman historiography presented chief of Huns Attila and his army the uncontrolled crowd of wild barbarians. However, it was found out later that it was a perfectly organized army exceeding in their quality Roman troops that allowed them to win …
Nowadays, the responsibility for the prominent attack staged on the New-York trading center on September 11 vests with Al-Qaeda and personally with Osama bin Laden. They are trying to make us think so as initiators of such versions need. Today it is called information war. In the ancient times, it was waged using papyruses, chronicles, and public criers, then --- with the use of cinema, television, and radio; now it involves Internet technologies.
However, let continue our talk about the secrets of June 22, 1941 … After the German aggression against Poland, the developments were as follows:
September 28, 1939 – the USSR signs a pact with Estonia.
October 5, 1939 – the USSR signs the pact with Latvia.
October 10, 1939 – the USSR hands over the Polish city of Vilna to Lithuania and it starts to bear the original Lithuanian name Vilnius. This becomes a reason for the Polish government in exile to announce the war against the USSR. It seems that only this should make Lithuanians to respect the Soviet Union … However, the later events showed that the sense of gratitude is absent in the political elite of this country. Deportation of Polish Jews to the Lublin ghetto begins.
October, 1939 – talks between the USSR and Finland. The USSR insists on the Pact on mutual aid but Finland rejects the proposal. The USSR posed the requirements formulated in the Memorandum to Finland: to lease and transfer under the Soviet jurisdiction important strategic points in the coastal zone.
November 30, 1939 — the Soviet troops trespass on the Finnish border.
March 12, 1940 – the end of the Soviet-Finnish war. Finland signs the peace treaty with the USSR and passes to the Soviet Union the Karelian Isthmus and coast of the Lake Ladozhskoe. The treaty is based on the Memorandum dated October 14, 1939.
April 9, 1940 – the German soldiers intervene into Denmark and Norway. In Norway, the Germans occupy major ports and cities.
April 15, 1940 – the British cryprographers for the first time ever decode the key using which the Germans code their messages at the Enigma device (for radio transmission). Due to it, the British get the opportunity to read most German radio talks. Given the enormous degree of furnishing by means of radio communication of the German Armed Forces and the fact that most documents were radio transmitted, one can absolutely precisely state that further during the entire war, Britain reliably knew all military operations of the Nazi Germany but it rarely shared the secrets with its allies …
May 10, 1940 – Winston Churchill becomes the British premier.
May 14, 1940 – the German army invade the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg (operations end on May, 14). The Dutch army ceases to resist. The German troops breach the French defenses under Sedan and approach the English Channel coast, dividing the allied British-French army into two groups (the operation ends on May, 23).
May 26, 1940 – the Dunkirk operation to evacuate the British-French troops. It was the first example of the presence of agreements between Britain and Germany.
It is well-known that German armored divisions stopped near this French port to give England the opportunity to evacuate over 338,000 allied troops. As a rule, both British and German historians write off this fact on either inadvertences of the German command, or on inadequacy of Hitler per se … But is not it more logical to believe that Hitler provided Britain with such opportunity in the hope for the English support in the oncoming war with the USSR? Given the preceding British policy with regard to the Soviet Union, it is this that seems most realistic …
June, 1940 – German armed forces occupy Northern and South-Western France (the operation ends on June, 27).
That June became, on the one hand, the triumph of the Hitlerite strategy of Blitzkrieg and, on the other hand, the “ocular demonstration” of the impotence and duplicity of the policy of the western states.
In June, the Norwegian resistance to German army ceased, and King Haakon VII was urged to flee to Great Britain. The French government left Paris and arrived in Bordeaux on June 14. Italy declares war to France and Great Britain. On the same day, Germans triumphantly enter Paris. On June 15, France applies for help to the United States but is rejected by this great democratic power. On the same day, the Red Army enters Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
On June 16, Winston Churchill offers the French government the alliance with Great Britain to continue the war after the France’s occupation. Paris refuses from this idea, after which Prime Minister Reino is sacked. Marshall Henri Petain becomes the new chairman of the cabinet. In France, Marshall Petain announces that the French government has talks with Germany on the signing of the truce. On June 22, France signs the armistice with Germany, agreeing to split the country into two zones: the territory occupied by the Germans and including the northern and south-western France and the so-called autonomous French state with the capital city in Vichy, which embraces the rest of France and its territories overseas (the government will be formed in Vichy on July 1). Recall that later, in July 1941, a French volunteer legion would be created to fight the Bolsheviks, which then would develop into the 33rd Grenadier Division of the “SS” troops Charlemagne (“Charles the Great”). In October 1941, the French legion (the foot regiment, with the numbers of 2,500 men) was sent to the German-Soviet front to the Moscow direction. The Frenchmen suffered heavy losses, and from spring 1942 to summer 1994 the legion was removed from the front and forwarded to combat Soviet partisans in the rear. The rest of the French division (about 700 men) defended in Berlin in late April 1945. In the war against the USSR, about 8,000 Frenchmen perished (not counting Alsatians called up to Wehrmacht). Three French troops were awarded German Knight Crosses.
July 10, 1940 – the so-called “Battle for England” starts.
July 16, 1940 – Hitler issued Directive No. 16 on the preparation of the operation to land troops in England
October 12, 1940 – Hitler postpones the “Sea Lion” operation; that is the earlier planned invasion of England. During the battle for this country, the list of targets on the British territory expands and includes intense bombing of London (especially on October 13-21) and other cities.
December 5, 1940 – In the Hitlerite Headquarters, Franz Galder, the command of the General Headquarters of the German land troops, made a Report on the planned Eastern operation against the USSR.
Thus, this is the moment of truth: from December 5, 1940 there was no saying about the incursion into England. The English government headed by Sir Winston Churchill was fully aware of it! Moreover, if it, this government were really concerned with the nation’s security, it would make all efforts to get such ally as the USSR. However, historians do not know about any talks between Britain and the USSR right until June 22, 1941. There were not any talks … The conclusion follows that England was well suited by Hitler’s turn to the East. Well did the future ally in anti-Nazi coalition behave!
Now the most interesting part of this bloody historic detective story begins: on May 10, 1941, month and a half before the German offense against the USSR, Rudolf Hess, Hitler’s deputy in the party, flew to Scotland, hoping to sign the peace treaty with Great Britain. On the same day, the most vigorous air raid of the German aviation on London occurs.
According to the British version (and there may be no other version (!)), Hess made the flight to Scotland secretly from the Nazi government in order to offer peace to the British government and jointly participate in the war against the USSR.
Hess’s unarmed Messerschmitt-110 fighter take off from the Augsburg-based aerodrome with the fuel supply for one flight to Britain. He allegedly intended to land near the asset of Duke Hamilton, however, when flying to the site, he failed to find the suitable place, parachuted, and surrendered to local farmers. This alone evokes distrust if not laughter: by that time, the British air defense forces not only acquired the military experience, but also excellent equipment, all English coast was furnished by radio locators, and the population was strongly preparing to repulse the aggression and intensively learning the enemy’s equipment. Even 15-year old boys knew well silhouettes of German aircraft. Hess flew and planned the flight so that he could land on the northern coast of England right after the sunset; i.e., the entire flight over England occurred during daylight hours (!) at the speed of only 350-370 kilometers per hour! Naпve Englishmen for 70 years try to make the entire world to believe that up to the very parachuting of Hess near Glasgow, his Messerschmitt-110 fighter remained unseen... Also, Hess allegedly lost his way and dangled long over Scotland, looking for the runway near the manor of Duke Hamilton!
In a word, on March 10, 1941 the entire Great Britain suddenly lost its sight and went deaf. Leave this fairy tale for Christmas, dear British sirs!
Further the Englishmen tell quite a romantic story that Hess was first brought to a Glasgow hospital, and in the beginning he introduced himself under a fictitious name, but then admitted that he was Rudolf Hess. He was allegedly embarrassed by the circumstance that English officials could not grasp for a long time what for the flight was made and initially refused to talk with him. Then one of employees of the Foreign Office agreed to listen to Hess’ proposals.
The most interesting is to follow: according to the English data, Hess stated on behalf of Hitler that Germany would like to sign the peace treaty with Great Britain, stop military actions and direct the joint efforts to fight the Bolshevist Russia; Great Britain would have the full freedom to act within the limits of the British Empire; colonies which Germany was deprived of by the Treaty of Versailles-1919 should be returned to it; the British troops should be withdrawn from Iran; and the British government should conclude the peace pact with Mussolini. Hess even stated that, since the Fuerer did not intend to conduct talks with Winston Churchill, it would be preferable if Churchill was sacked.
According to the German evidence, Hitler who was on the other side of the English Channel went off into a true hysterics: he ordered Goebbels, the propaganda minister, to certify Hess worldwide. Churchill, in turn, agreed with Hitler and many times stated that Hess had come to England on his own initiative and had not had any powers. What a touchy consensus did two “mortal” enemies have, did not they?
It would seem that Churchill had not any obstacles to use this flight for propaganda to the maximum extent: for instance, to falsify Hess’ statement and say that he had urged all Germans to fight bloody maniac Hitler and appoint him the chair of the “Free Germany” Committee…
Hess was sent to the London Tower where he stayed as a top internee person up to October 5, 1945. Then he was transferred to the Nuremberg prison where, being 93-year palsied old man, he hung himself on August 17, 1987! The side wing where this happened was destroyed by the fire in several days.
On the day of death, Maury, the Tunisian aid-man who was Hess’ guardian, was not let go to him. Only after half an hour, post effortful attempts to reach the garden house which was specially built for Hess for the case of bad weather, Maury saw the ward lifeless on the floor. The American warder and two more militaries were in the house. Their presence was a gross violation of the charter. Maury began to artificially ventilate Hess, but his “first-aid” case proved to be unlocked and the oxygen balloon --- empty, although the aid-man did check it the day before. The instruments of a British doctor who came were also unworkable. When Hess’ body was brought to the hospital, two strangers disappeared and the aid-man was advised to keep silence.
Hess J. believes that the two strangers in the American uniform were disguised employees of British special services. One of them, when helping the aid-man, used such force to massage Hess’ heart that he broke few ribs and breastbone --- this was confirmed by the forensic medical examination. Britain has always done so that it will be all right on the night … Truth is that in this case, fire was used. The British government promised to disclose the secret documents about the Hess flight to England before 2000 year but then the term was extended to 2017.
The English assure that they held no talks with Hess and that they immediately and very frankly put him in prison, but few believe it. In reality, the talks were. As often in diplomacy, their result was a compromise: England gave Hitler carte blanche for “Drang nach Osten”, undertaking not to hold any land operations on the territories, occupied by Germany by that moment.
But what is about the landing of the allied troops in Normand on July 6, 1944, the meticulous reader may ask. Germany was merely bilked, just as England bilked the USSR in 1941… This is the British politics. Until the end of the war, Hitler hoped to find a compromise with the great western powers. He hoped for it because there was the precedent on May 10, 1941! But up to that moment, Great Britain definitely understood that the Fuhrer suffered a crushing defeat and the USSR itself was able not only to rout Germany but also occupy all Western Europe. This did not suit England at all …
