Why the Moldavian management was excommunicated?

Much that happened to politicians of so-called orange direction on open spaces of the CIS, but to be excommunicated - didn't happen yet! The Moldavian politicians from a westernized coalition who somehow managed to reformat the coalition “caused a stir”.

According to the decision of the Synod of Orthodox church of Moldova they got “a small excommunication”. It assumes a temporary ban on participation of the separated persons in church ceremonies, in particular, communicating. And acceptance in the republic of the so-called law on fight against discrimination where speech, certainly, came about the rights of gays became an occasion to it…

For our portal the situation was commented by the deputy of parliament of the Republic of Moldova (Party of communists of the Republic of Moldova), known political scientist Zurab Todua:

- To understand a situation today, it is necessary to remember that in 2009 the new group came to the power in Moldova – a coalition consisting of right-wing parties. Right nationalist parties sharply changed a course of domestic and foreign policy of Moldova. They developed policy to the west.

And during all this time to the detriment of interests of Moldova they follow instructions which the International Monetary Fund in the field of economy and the European Union in the field of foreign policy gives them. And the main recommendation of the European Union is no serious, deep contacts with CIS countries, no relation to the Customs Union; it is possible to be guided only to the west.

For this purpose the introduction in the European Union is promised to them in the future, but it is a question of the long-term future – 15-20-30 years … And in the form of such carrot they promised the agreement on association –necessary to nobody because 50 states have it with the European Union, thus they don't bear something special in themselves. Besides, they promise the facilitated visa regime and signing of the contract on a free trade zone.

The Moldavian economists consider that the law on a free trade zone will undermine the positions of local producers, especially, in the field of agriculture. And much still it is possible to list … Nevertheless, nothing from this could rouse the church figures of Moldova to decision-making about which so much speak today. The issue is other!
At insistance of the West the law which officially is called as the law “About Ensuring Equality” was adopted where it is a question of the rights of homosexuals. The church repeatedly suggested the power to revise this law, to make any amendments concerning the provision of nonconventional sexual minorities. However, the authorities refused to do something because they have obligations to the European structures to advance this law! It is necessary to tell that among the population the law is extremely unpopular – it is unambiguously perceived, as support and advance of values which don't correspond in any way to mentality and values of the Moldavian society.

So there was a conflict which develops and which, unfortunately, has no safe permission. The situation as much as possible became aggravated in May-June when representatives of the Moldavian church actually put forward the ultimatum in which declared the need of cancellation of the law. Here it is necessary to speak about big activity of the church figure known in the republic, bishop Markel who in mass media and on various actions pointed to inadmissibility of adoption of the similar law. The authorities didn't listen – as a result the church made the decision on an excommunication of a group of persons from power structures.

Now the situation develops as follows: misters from Alliance for the European democracy which, however, now changed the name, can't make communion, can't do other things … And it is very painful for the Moldavian society!

What did authorities make? They in reply declared that will undertake actions concerning church. One of these figures, for example, declared that it is necessary to tax the church … It means that they hope to press the church, as they say.

It is difficult to say how the events will develop, but it is obvious that it is necessary to leave this conflict somehow. That problem, which caused power and church strain of relations, consists that the ruling coalition carries out installations of the European structures and in any way doesn't consider that many from advanced ideas from the European Union in Moldova don't correspond to traditions, mentality, culture and conditions of Moldova. But the authorities hold the ground farther to receive the help from the European Union. For them the most important that in the fall those three agreements about which I already spoke would be succeeded to sign somehow.

For the European Union it is important to show success of the policy too. After the crisis recently develops in Europe, “orange” projects in Ukraine and in Georgia failed there was only Moldova which they would like to present as success of the policy in the east. But it conflicts to interests of the most part of the population of Moldova and as a result crisis remains and tends to development.

I think that in the fall the republic can wait the internal political crisis similar to that took place in the spring of this year. The prospect of disintegration of ruling coalition remains, including because of the conflict to church. The prospect of new early parliamentary elections remains also which can take place in the fall of this year or in the first half of the next one.
